Since First I Saw Your Face
Thomas Ford (1580-1648)
AICSA: Since First is one of the most commonly-sung AICSA songbook pieces, and as such is a must-know for every AICSA chorister.
History: Since First was first published in Thomas Ford's "Music of Sundry Kinds" in 1607. Note that Thomas Ford did not write the original (although it is commonly attributed to him); instead, "Music of Sundry Kinds" was a collation of pieces by unknown or obscure composers and songwriters. It is likely, though, that he introduced his own interpretation and alterations to the pieces; as such, with no other known claimant to the authorship of this piece, he is given composer credit 'by default'.
